Before You Buy
Buying a home is no small purchase. And a lot of times, real estate blogs tend to talk about the facts and figures you need to consider. These are all very important, but numbers are something easily explained by your agent. What’s more difficult to square away into boxes is the emotional aspect of buying a home. Now, we definitely do not mean to sound like “home therapy” and you should not make a decision based solely on “how you feel”. However, there are several factors to consider when buying a home that are not numerically based:
1. What are the essentials for your lifestyle?
Sotheby’s International Realty does a fantastic job of not only categorizing real estate according to location but also according to lifestyle. Whether you are an avid golfer, long for a ranch on the open plains, Sotheby’s has a home fitting your needs.
2. What is the end goal?
What will your home be used for? To start and raise a family? Do you need a office space? It is fundamental when buying a home to find a space that works best for you.
3. The Commute
No one wants to spend the majority of their day trapped on the highway. Even if you have to settle for your second or third choice neighborhood, your car and gas bill will thank you for it later.
4. The Neighborhood
Are you a socialite or more of a recluse? Do you like your privacy or are you more likely to invite your neighbors over for a morning coffee? The Bay Area has a multitude of neighborhoods, all offering different and unique amenities. You want to live in the one that best suits you. You can read up on several of the different neighborhoods like Belmont and San Carlos on our blog.
5. Keep Resale in Mind
All right, this last one has a little number factor to it. But hey, it’s a good thing to have in the back of your mind. Your house should match the neighborhood it is in because future buyers tend to shy away from homes that stick out like sore thumbs.
